A is for Abbeyhill Artists – a durational public art project set in a purpose-built Victorian school building at the city centre of Edinburgh initiated and curated by Iliyana Nedkova since 2013. Delivered through an ongoing artists’ residency programme aimed at spreading the wonder of contemporary arts to every pupil and teacher in and outside the classrooms of Abbeyhill Primary School. Over 50 projects by as many resident artists and partners premiered in exhibitions and performances as part of the annual community festival Colony of Artists since 2013. Every third weekend in September since 2005 we have been opening the doors of Edinburgh’s Abeyhill Primary School as one of the exhibition venues of the Colony of Artists festival. In September 2020, amids the COVID-19 pandemic, we migrated to two new exhibition platforms instead – windows and screens!
